Gingival grafting
A gingival graft (also known as a gum graft or periodontal plastic surgery), is a collective name for surgical periodontal procedures that aim to cover an exposed tooth root surface with grafted oral tissue. Exposed roots are usually the result of gingival recession due to periodontal disease. There are other common causes including overly aggressive brushing and trauma.
What are the common reasons for gingival graft?
Gingival graft is a fairly common procedure performed with excellent results. Here are some of the benefits:
- Reduced dentinal sensitivity
- Improved esthetics
- Strengthening of tissues and prevention of further recession and bone loss
The gingival grafting procedure is performed under local anesthetic. Our dentists will fully educate and inform the patients about the procedure. We will also explain what to expect after the surgery and prescribe the appropriate medications if necessary as well as perform follow up verifications.
